Luxury Las Vegas Real Estate Offers No Shortage of Nature’s Abundance
We all know Las Vegas is famous for its neon lights (there’s even a museum dedicated to neon signs here). But, what a lot of people don’t realize is that the Las Vegas Valley has a wealth of treasure far removed from the casino’s bank vaults.
These are a couple of examples of natural resources in Las Vegas:
• Mountains surround the Valley on three sides, creating a basin landscape in the desert. The Sheep, Spring, and McCullough mountain ranges border Las Vegas in every direction.
• The Colorado River is east of the city limits and is the water source for Lake Mead and Lake Las Vegas. The Hoover Dam redirected the flow from The Colorado River to form the 1.5 million-acre Lake Mead National Recreational Area.
Boat ramps and rental facilities grant access to leisure pursuits of all kinds on Lake Mead, and there are marina services available if you want to house your boat on the lake.
Alpine Happenings
Mt Charleston is a year-round destination for basin dwellers and adventure seekers alike. At a mere 55 miles north of Las Vegas via Highway 95, the elevated vista is an accessible day trip from the Valley. Over 50 miles of maintained trails weave along the top of the mountain, the highest elevation in southern Nevada.
Good news for anyone seeking relief from the summer heat: The temperature at the top of Mt Charleston is 30 degrees cooler than the average valley climate.
The Resort on Mt Charleston at the peak consists of a lodge, restaurant, bar, limited gaming, designated snow play areas along the walking and snowshoeing trails.
Near Mt Charleston is Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort at the base of Lee Peak. Winter brings snow to the summit, a sharp contrast from the Valley heat. From November to April a downhill tour de force happens on regular occurrences. Skiers, inner tube enthusiasts, and snowboarders load the slopes while the powder is fresh.
The summer months play host to chairlift rides, disc golf, and a few weddings. A bar and grill on the mountain serves up post-adventure sustenance. Gas stations are not prevalent once you get close to the mountains, so check your gauges before you start your trip.
The Red Rocks
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is the backdrop for The Ridges and Red Rock Country Club communities, to name a couple.
The Ridges, a village in the Summerlin community, has commanding views of Red Rock Canyon. The crests provided a key focal point for engineers during the planning stages of the development. Custom luxury homes within The Ridges are at an elevation that yields unobstructed views of the canyon as well as the Las Vegas Skyline.
Red Rock Country Club, also in Summerlin, is a golf and social club community at the edge of Red Rock Canyon. Rounds of golf, tennis, and refreshments are available for members, all within eyeshot of the canyon.
Fast Facts About Red Rock Canyon
Howard Hughes traded a portion of his original 25,000-acre purchase to keep a buffer zone of undeveloped habitat near the canyon. A 13-mile scenic stretch of road through the highlands gives tourists a glimpse of what the national treasure has to offer.
The Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association offers guided tours through the basin trails, weather permitting. They lead hikers on wildflower hunts, sunset expeditions, and trips back in time through remnants of ancient cultures found in the hills.
High On The Mountain Top
MacDonald Highlands and the Anthem community are in the Black Mountains, part of the McCullough chain in the southeast section of the valley. Within these gated associations lie panoramic views of the Las Vegas skyline and the crests of the mountains to the east and south.
In addition to custom homes on elevated parcels, Anthem also provides an age-restricted community, Sun City, Anthem. For those prospective residents age 55 and up, this extension of Anthem is a viable option for a primary or vacation home.
Lifestyle amenities for both neighborhoods include golf and social club memberships, tennis, restaurants, and special events for members.
Lake Las Vegas
The waters of the Colorado River flow through the Las Vegas Wash area into Lake Las Vegas, another man-made phenomenon of water in the desert. The luxury home options at Lake Las Vegas range from condos above retail outlets in Montelago to waterfront estates with boat slips and cascade waterfalls.
